ABOUT US
Commitment to high-quality national cooperative olive oil
FENAZEITES – the National Federation of Olive Growers’ Cooperatives, FCRL – was founded in 1999 with the aim of representing and defending the interests of olive-growing cooperatives and their member farmers, both nationally and internationally.
FENAZEITES was established in response to the need to organise and strengthen the olive-growing cooperative sector, against a backdrop of a shortfall in olive oil production and a trend towards the abandonment of large areas of olive groves.
FENAZEITES has kept pace with the transformation the sector has undergone in recent years, from the environmental modernisation of olive mills to new plantations featuring higher-yielding varieties, culminating in the cooperatives’ ongoing commitment to producing a product of superior quality.
STORY OF FENAZEITES
Key milestones in our history
1999
Founding of FENAZEITES, and affiliation with Confagri (National Confederation of Agricultural Cooperatives and Agricultural Credit of Portugal, CCRL).
2000-2010
2000–2010 – Expansion of the number of member cooperatives, establishment of networks for dialogue and institutional strengthening, and active participation in promoting cooperative olive oil.
2011-2020
Continued growth in membership, and the promotion and promotion of cooperative olive oil at national and international level.
Current situation
Today, FENAZEITES represents 33 cooperatives and a federation of cooperatives that produce 76% of the country’s cooperative olive oil, making it one of the main representative bodies of the olive sector in Portugal. FENAZEITES is committed to sustainability, upholding the quality of cooperative olive oil and promoting olive-growing cooperatives as a cornerstone of rural development
Mission
We play a vital role in championing Portuguese olive oil, particularly that produced by cooperatives, helping to uphold the sector’s traditions, sustainability and quality. Our mission is to represent, defend and promote the interests of olive oil cooperatives and their member farmers before national and international bodies.
