Porca de Murça recognised in Spain as the Best Olive Oil in Portugal

The Spanish Olive Oil School considers Porca de Murça Olive Oil to be the Best Portuguese Olive Oil and one of the Best in the World

The Murça Olive Growers’ Agricultural Cooperative is once again to be congratulated!

The Valencia Olive Oil School, one of the most prestigious schools in the olive oil sector and a pioneer in the specific training of more than a thousand professional olive oil tasters and olive oil technicians, has selected the Porca de Murça PDO olive oil batches, the Cordovil and Verdeal single-variety oils and the cocoa-flavoured olive oil as finalists for its ESAO AWARDS 2024. The Porca de Murça PDO olive oil batch, a blend of traditional varieties from the Trás-os-Montes region, was even considered the third best olive oil in the world and the best in Portugal. The single-variety oils were also considered the second and third best Portuguese olive oils.

According to Francisco Vilela, President of the Murça Olive Growers’ Cooperative, “This distinction was awarded by a prestigious Olive Oil School, which selected three batches of Porca de Murça olive oil from among countless Portuguese olive oils, distinguishing them as the best olive oils in Portugal and the third best extra virgin olive oil in the world. it is indisputable proof of the quality of the olive oils produced by the Murça Olive Growers’ Agricultural Cooperative. In addition to this distinction, this week, chemical analyses at the Malaga International Competition also considered the Cordovil batch to be one of the nine healthiest olive oils in the world and the healthiest in Portugal due to its balanced composition of healthy fatty acids.

He also notes that ‘The innovative product from the Murça Olive Growers’ Agricultural Cooperative – Olive Oil with Cocoa – was the only flavoured olive oil from Portugal to win an international award in 2024 and, according to the Spanish Olive Oil School, is one of the best olive oil-based condiments in the world.

By 2024, Porca de Murça olive oil had already won around 17 medals in seven of the biggest international competitions with its PDO, Cobrançosa, Madural, Cordovil, Verdeal, Organic and Olive Oil with Cocoa editions.

This olive oil from Trás-os-Montes has now reached the highest level of the podium for the best olive oils in the world, proving itself to be the true ambassador for the quality of olive oil from Trás-os-Montes, and particularly from Murça, throughout the world.
