Porca de Murça single-variety olive oils considered the best in the world in 2024

Olive oil with cocoa considered the 2nd most awarded flavoured olive oil in the world and the best in Portugal

Porca de Murça olive oil received the award for best olive oil in the world in the four main varieties of Trás-os-Montes (Cobrançosa, Cordovil, Verdeal and Madural) according to the “Evoo World Ranking”.

This ‘world ranking’ was created by the World Association of Wine and Spirits Journalists (WAWWJ) to inform consumers about the quality of the world’s most awarded extra virgin olive oils. It has been published annually for over twelve years based on the WRW & S (World Ranking Wine & Spirit) classification system.

According to Francisco Vilela, President of Cooperativa dos Olivicultores de Murça, “It is a source of enormous pride for all Murça olive growers. Year after year, Porca de Murça olive oil has been awarded the title of best among the best olive oils in the world, and this unparalleled consistency confirms the unique characteristics of the product that the Murça Olive Growers’ Cooperative brings to market. These results also confirm that Cocoa Olive Oil, an unparalleled innovation in the olive oil sector, was a winning bet, achieving second place in the ‘TOP 25 Flavoured Oils of the World 2024’ ranking in less than two years since its launch, a ranking historically led by Greek olive oils in which no Portuguese olive oil had ever appeared before.

In 2024 alone, Porca de Murça olive oil won around 65 medals in 14 of the biggest international competitions with its PDO, Cobrançosa, Madural, Cordovil, Verdeal, Organic and Olive Oil with Cocoa editions. It was also named the best Portuguese olive oil in two of the most respected international competitions in the two leading olive oil producing countries: Spain and Italy, at ESAOE and EVOIOOC respectively. At the Malaga International Competition, also in Spain, chemical analyses ranked the Cordovil batch as the ninth healthiest olive oil in the world due to its balanced composition of healthy fatty acids and polyphenols.

This olive oil from Trás-os-Montes has now reached the highest level of the podium for the best olive oils in the world, proving itself to be the true ambassador for the quality of olive oil from Trás-os-Montes, and particularly from Murça, throughout the world.
